Coastal Custom Wine Cellars is composed of experts in building stylish home custom wine cellars. They recently finished the construction of a unique residential cellar for a client in Miami, Florida. The client wanted his storage structure to be able to store wines as well as other types of liquor. The builders used lacquer finished Redwood for the wooden wine racks and the storage cases. Coastal also teamed up with Arctic Metalworks Inc. for the installation of the refrigeration equipment in the wine room.
Custom Home Wine Cellar Project in Florida: Application of a Lacquer Finish on the Redwood Wine Racks and Storage Shelves
There are many types of wood used in building wooden wine racks and shelves. The kind of wood that is used will determine not only the durability of a storage structure but also the overall aesthetic appeal of a wine room. The most common choices of materials on the market include Mahogany, Pine, Walnut, Redwood, and Sapele. Coastal builds custom wine cellars using any of these popular wood species.
The Coastal team of expert builders, together with the client in the Miami construction project, decided to use Redwood. They chose Redwood because the material is known for its durability. It has natural oils preserved in the material, which makes the wood highly resistant to moisture and mildew. Redwood is a top choice also because of its soft earth tone color distinctions that develop divinely through the years.
Many people opt to leave Redwood unstained or unfinished, which is alright because this kind of wood is gorgeous with or without stains or finishes. But the client in this project wanted to have a lacquer finish on his racking and shelves. He wanted the Redwood to gain a more sophisticated appearance.
There are many kinds of finishes on the market. The most common types are shellac, lacquer, varnish, and polyurethane. It is important to note that not all of these finishes are compatible with all wood species. It is best to consult a wine storage specialist when choosing a stain or finish.
As per the request of the client, the construction team from Coastal applied a lacquer finish on the wooden racks and shelves. Lacquer was a brilliant choice for the Miami home wine cellar. This kind of finish is known for its durability and its capacity to provide a stunning gloss on wooden materials. The colors of the Redwood in this project looked bolder and more enhanced after the application of lacquer. The client was very happy with the result.
Custom-Designed Wooden Wine Racks and Storage Cases
The Miami storage construction project was a success mainly because there were open lines of communication and a free contribution of ideas between the client and the team of builders from Coastal. It was the client who suggested to the contractors use commercial rollers for the wooden storage cases. The client wanted to be able to access his wines on the shelves without having to bend down. Because of the suggested setup, the client can now pull the wood boxes easily by sliding them across the rollers.
Wood cases are sold on the market in an assortment of sizes. Depending on the design, some of these commercial storage boxes can hold anywhere from three to twelve bottles. For the Miami residential cellar, the team from Coastal custom-built wooden shelves that had openings that could accommodate large-format bottles, such as standard champagne, Oregon Pinots, Turley Zinfandels, and Shiraz.
A display row was also built on one of the shelves, and it was lined with LED lighting. The client loved the display row because it made his home cellar look more lavish. He also liked that he could use it as a means to manage his stock better. The client kept his wine collection organized by keeping similar bottles above and below the display row.
The Miami residential wine room used to have a mini cellar on one side. It was intended for storing wines that needed to be kept at a cooler temperature. The client used to store whites and champagnes in his mini cellar, but he recently gave it away. The area where the mini cellar used to stand is now an empty space. The client asked the team of contractors from Coastal to come back to his home and build him more single bottle wine racks. These storage structures will be used to fill the space where the mini cellar used to be.
Reliable Custom Wine Cellar Cooling System Installed by a Refrigeration Specialist
A functional custom wine storage room should have a cooling system installed. Without a dependable HVAC unit, a cellar cannot provide the ideal temperature and humidity that wines need to age properly. Wine cellars differ in storage requirements, which means that each structure needs a different refrigeration unit. The right cooling system for a wine room depends on a variety of factors, such as the size of the area, the number of bottles stored, and the climate of the region. To determine the most suitable HVAC equipment for any cellar, a cooling expert must be consulted. For the Miami residential wine cellar, an HVAC professional from Arctic Metalworks Inc. installed a split-type ductless refrigeration system.
The technicians from Arctic Metalworks Inc. mounted the HVAC equipment’s evaporating unit on the wine cellar wall. The condenser was placed outside of the client’s house. The split-type configuration of the cooling system was advantageous to the client because there was no hot air exhausted anywhere in his home. Also, the client loved that the evaporator was functioning quietly in his wine room.
The evaporating unit was very mechanical-looking in nature, and it was an eyesore in the cellar if left unconcealed. The client had the builders make a wooden box with a louvered grill to hide the cooling equipment. The wood used for the box and grill was the same material that the racks and shelves were made from.
